At Ostrander Insurance we try to give you as many insurance options as possible—because insuring your car is not optional.

In Massachusetts, auto insurance is mandatory. The Registry of Motor Vehicles won't issue a license plate for your vehicle unless you can show them proof of insurance. And if your auto insurance policy is canceled for any reason (lapsed, nonpayment) your insurance company must notify the RMV. The RMV will then cancel your plate and registration. (Fines and penalties for driving unregistered and uninsured are considerable and surchargeable.)

The insurance agent you choose to work with should represent several companies with an assortment of rates, payment plans, and coverage options. Although rate differences tend to be minimal (despite what you hear from talking lizards and famous actors) your agent should be able to break down the best coverage options and carrier choices for you. She or he should spend a few minutes reviewing your circumstances and then sharing with you the details, options and his or her suggestions.

Good agents don't decide for you what coverage and which carrier are best—this should always be your decision. (After all, it's your money!)
